I spent New Year's with a stranger, a tall Pole called Mateusz. He was cat-sitting on an hill apartment, top floor with a private balcony and everything. I've never seen so many fireworks in my life. The entire stretch of horizon was filled with fireworks as far as the eye could see, it felt like a warzone, and like a once in a lifetime sort of event. It's excessiveness, though unique, made me think only about all the strays hiding and scared.
